Iditarod 2006!

Well here we are... racing in Iditarod 34! It's hard to believe really, but it is what it is... and now it is time to pour all our energy and time into it and see how things stir up!

Sawtooth Kennels began along the wind swept coasts of the Seward Peninsula with the help and masterfull teaching skills of Joe Garnie... the truest DogMan I have ever met. With his help, I learned the fundamentals of dog teaming- breeding, lead-dog training, feeding, sled building, and the right attitude to survive in any environment with skill and grace .

From the begining, the kennel was for Work... hauling drift wood to heat our small home, ice for drinking water, and transportation in and out of the village to our year-round camp. But now...though my heart still longs for the wonder of the Seward Peninsula... we live in the thick forests of Talkeetna, Alaska. And with that move came roads and people and no longer the need to run dogs for Work. So to give purpose to all the hours I am unwilling to give up standing on the sled runners, laddling soup to the dogs, and cleaning poo (hours and hours of that!) I added the "Racing" to Sawtooth Racing Kennels.......and with the great support of TeachingWoW I get to bring this whole exciting experience to hundreds of students around the country to share my love of wild places and simple pleasures.

So here we go!

I hope enjoy and learn much from the links to the right. In them you will find a ton of information on dog mushing and general living in Alaska... Don't forget to check out Ichiban and All-Girls Kennels. They are two junior musher sharing the dog yard and training time with me this year as they get ready for their rookie runnings of the Jr. Iditarod this spring!
